Grand Re-Opening of the East San José Carnegie Branch Library

San José Public Library will be celebrating the Grand Re-Opening of the East San José Carnegie Branch Library August 29, 2009. This event will be very exciting with grand opening ceremonies and special programs and events. We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic volunteers to be part of this very special event. Some of the duties will include:

* Special event set-up
* Assist with special event programs and projects
* Serve refreshments
* Distribute programs to visitors
* Assist in keeping the area clean

Just a couple of things

I want to thank everyone who volunteered at the 21st Children's Faire on Saturday, April 25. We had over 180 volunteers who gave their time to assist in educating and entertaining children. Thank you so much!

Welcome & News

Welcome to the new blog for Volunteer Services at the San José Public Library. I hope that this will be a welcome place for people to come and get volunteer news. Please note on the left there is a calendar for upcoming events. You can subscribe to this calendar and also to this blog (the link for that is near the bottom of this page).

I am happy to report that we now have enough volunteers for the 21st Annual Children's Faire. After posting this opportunity to Volunteer Match and to SJPL's Volunteer Opportunity page, I had an overwhelming response from teens, volunteer organizations, and everyone in between. Thank you all for your willingness to volunteer!

As you'll see on the Volunteer Opportunity page, we have a number of outstanding volunteer opportunities available. Particularly "hot" opportunities right now include Partners in Reading tutor (with a training coming up in March), Reading to Children (training coming up in May), and Tech Aide. Please print out an application to fill out and send us so that we can get you on board.
